The Wilderness of the Arizona Trail

It is 7:30pm, day 4. We’ve already been walking for over 50 miles, set about 117,000 steps. Once again we hurried in our tent seeking its comfort and absurd feeling of security. But this time it is different. As darkness is surrounding us, so are the agonizing howls and yips of the coyotes calling one to another. This, in addition to the two snakes we’ve seen today, makes us more aware than ever that we’re setting foot on their grounds and that in their world, we are vulnerable.

Saguaro National Park, not just a walk in the park

“I think I might as well start this post with some advice; best advice I could give you right now is to never listen to your girlfriend. Oh, I can hear you girls screaming that I am dirty filthy macho from here already.
First, spend a night in a 15°C sleeping bag when it is 5°C outside because your girlfriend told you you wouldn’t need a warmer sleeping bag and we’ll talk about it again.”

Saguaro National Park or Mardi Gras in New Orleans?

Not planning anything while traveling makes it possible to consider multiple options on the spot. For us, the choice was almost made: parades and music during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, LA or hiking and adventure in the Saguaro National Park, AZ. Don’t try to find any logic in that. All we knew was that we needed to leave Phoenix soon. We had had our share of McDonalds and expensive espressobars. Plus, we had bought everything we needed to get started with the real deal.
We dreadfully sought for a place to stay on Couchsurfing but good ol’ couchsurfing wasn’t with us this time.
Confetti and masks in the National Park it will be.
After a last McDonalds and tasty coffee, we quickly packed and were ready to hit the road.
We set up right in front of our favorite American Burger Restaurant (McD’s) with our artistic sign, looking for a kind driver to get us to Tucson.
